Gray's beaked whale, Mesoplodon grayi, VT199

Physical Description

Skull and lower jaws of a Grey's beaked whale. Lower tusks are still in place. Remnants of dried soft tissue are still present mainly in the upper and lower jaw area.

Field Collection

Reported by farmer who owns property to have been stranded "about 2 weeks". Stranded half buried, (lying on left side) at high tide level. The skull was collected, rest of carcass was buried.
