Physical Description

Ivory figurine in three main parts: stylised lotus throne stand, figure carved in the half-round and a back plate all pegged together. The figure is of a an old long-bearded man dressed in a long robe decorated along the border and with tri-lobed circular designs. A cap or hat is worn on the head. A bamboo tube (?) with two thin appendages is held in both hands. The back plate is decorated with cloud designs. This figure is Chung Kuo-Lao, the Taoist immortal representing wealth, whose symbol is the bamboo tube drum.
