Physical Description
Round red earthenware pot with a strap handle from neck to shoulder and flared lip. Five applique fruit shaped knobs are placed at equal intervals around the shoulder with painted circular outlines inbetween. These and the neck are painted white. The jug is also decorated with white lines around the carinations and two around the base of the neck. Understood to be ?Mochica based on stylistic grounds. A gummed manuscript label adhered to the base reads "Very Ancient Primitive Pottery Bottle, South American Indian make" and in pencil "Peruvian".
