Physical Description
Bowenite/takiwai - translucent deep green with milky flaws. Spatulate in shape. Distal edge straight (and sharp) with rounded corners. Bilateral reduction at handle (no shoulders) and flares out to proximal end. Edge straight. Four grooves across both sides of butt with perforation in centre (interrupts grooves). Hole straight sided and threaded with leather thong.

Very unusual to find a mere made from tangiwai. The straright sided perforation and the high polish could indicate this was manufactured with European technology if not be European lapidary. Would benefit from further research. —Mr Mat Ellison
