Physical Description

Canoe shaped box, medium sized with one quadrat on base and whole of lid bare of ornamentation. Cross-section is a flattened oval. Lid almost the same shape as the box but not as hollow. Surface ornamentation is the straps of ridge and raised dot motif. The base is divided into quadrats by strap motif with parallel straps running diagonally from centre point to edge of box. Lid joins box with tongue and groove joint. Hole for suspension cord chiselled at each end. Plain ngututa style head at either end of box and hole drilled immediately behind head. Wood is Porokaiwhiri (Hedycarya arborea).
