The 19th annual Otago Wildlife Photography Competition opens for entries from Otago residents on Monday 13 November 2017.
Open to all amateur photographers and videographers living in Otago, the 2018 competition is once again open for submissions across Animal, Plant, Human Impact on the Environment, Pets, and Night Skies photo categories, as well as the Wildlife in Action video category.
Supported by Jonathan’s Photo Warehouse, Canon, and the Otago Daily Times, the competition is a stage to showcase your creative talent behind the lens as you explore the natural world.
The overall photography winner will receive a Canon EOS 77D 18-135 kit, worth $2,299, with the individual photography category winners and highly commended entries being awarded vouchers from Jonathan’s Photo Warehouse. The video category winner will receive a GoPro camera.

Go wild with animals! From microscopic to larger-than-life, animals offer endless opportunities for imaginative photographers.

The Museum will run a number of associated programmes and events including photography field trips and how-to sessions. The first event is Photo Safari on Saturday 18 November, which gives participants the opportunity to discover some of Dunedin’s best photo-snapping locations on a quest to capture the perfect shot. Numbers are limited on the double-decker bus; bookings can be made on the Otago Museum website www.otagomuseum.nz.

The 2018 Otago Wildlife Photography Competition closes at 12 noon on Friday 23 February 2018.
Winning and highly commended photographs will be announced at an afternoon prize-giving on Saturday 24 March 2018 followed by the opening of a free exhibition of winners and selected entries. The exhibition will run through to Sunday 22 July 2018.
